South Sudan is a country in a protracted crisis. It has been plagued by conflict, flooding, corruption, poor governance, economic mismanagement, and increasing dependency on donor assistance since its independence in 2011. The United States has been a strong supporter of South Sudan, providing over $6.6 billion in humanitarian aid and development assistance since 2011 and helping to broker peace agreements.
